Beneath a lively mansion party is a dim room; in the center, an isolated, ball-shaped glass cage imprisons a man as pale as the moon. He does not experience hunger or thirst, rather he experiences the decades flying by as he continues to dream about his liberation.

In the Netflix TV drama The Sandman, viewers follow Dream (played by Tom Sturridge) after he escapes imprisonment and embarks on a journey to find his stolen possessions. One of these possessions requires him to go to hell, forcing a confrontation with its ruler, Lucifer Morningstar (played by Gwendoline Christie). Simultaneously, during his journey, Dream seeks to rebuild the things precious to him that were destroyed during his absence. Dream, also known as Morpheus, the king of dreams, is part of the Endless – a dysfunctional family of seven anthropomorphic concepts who are the children of Mother Night and Father Time. In the story, the Endless consist of Destiny, Death, Dream, Disaster, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. In the show, viewers meet a few of the Endless besides Dream.

Since the release of The Sandman on Aug. 5, 2022, it has ranked among the top 10 shows on Netflix; it is among the top 10 in the U.S. and 88 other countries. Furthermore, the show has accumulated an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite critical acclaim across the board, Neil Gaiman, the writer of the Sandman comics, said on Twitter that it is unlikely there will be more seasons of the show.

“Because Sandman is a really expensive show,” Gailman said. “And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season, we have to perform incredibly well.So yes, we’ve been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. [But that may] not be enough.”

For a chance to have more seasons of this adaptation, Gaiman encourages fans to tell their friends and family to support it by simply watching more of it.
