Blackpink, one of the top female K-pop groups, released their most recent album, Born Pink. Dropping teasers on social media platforms such as Instagram, the album was long awaited by many fans. However, the first song’s debut was quite a mess, disappointing fans across the world. With unintelligible lyrics, repetitive beats, and an overall unexciting experience, Born Pink is by far one of Blackpink’s worst releases.

One prime example of the decline in lyrics is the album’s first song, “Pink Venom.” Most of Blackpink’s songs have meaningful lyrics. Unfortunately, “Pink Venom” did not reciprocate the same feeling. The song sounded like a mix of ad-libs and nothing more. “Pink Venom” seemed to only have lyrics that attached to the beat without giving any significance to such words.

Along with meaningless lyrics, Born Pink also resembles many of Blackpink’s previous titles, which does not let “Pink Venom” stand as its own song. Many, if not all, of the songs from Blackpink closely resemble each other, and the same can be said for the group’s current album. Each and every song contains the same old beats, structure, and rhythm; there is absolutely nothing special about any of them. Instead of wondering what Blackpink’s next song might be, you could already guess what it might sound like.

K-Pop has been an ever-growing genre in the music industry. And, even though Blackpink has a wide reach with their audience, they have provided lackluster content over-and-over again. What should be a strong example of what K-Pop is, attracting new listeners as a result, ends up being a poor, disappointing showcase for all of the fans. A song so highly anticipated ended up  having little to no value. And, what should have been a unique experience, ended up as  generic.

Altogether, Blackpink’s “Born Pink” is a disappointing blend of lackluster lyrics and repetitive rhythms, which culminates to quite a let down. As someone who used to like the group’s music, it is unfortunate to see where they are heading with the newest release of their album.
