When it comes to makeup, you might think that only women should wear it. But actually, there are male beauty and makeup gurus all over social media. Many male gurus present themselves with beauty, makeup reviews and tutorials, everyday life, vlogs, and entertainment.

“Makeup’s a really cool way to express yourself, and male influencers are better than a lot of people at doing makeup,” sophomore Katie Phan said.

Some male beauty and makeup gurus includes James Charles, Manny MUA, Bretman Rock, Jeffree Star, and Patrick Starrr.

While Star has his own makeup line called Jeffree Star Cosmetics, many other male gurus have collaborated with each other and worked with other big cosmetic brands. In particular, MUA has worked with big makeup brands such as Makeup Geek, Jeffree Star, Ofra, and Tarte Cosmetics. While Charles is the face of CoverGirl, MUA is the face of Maybelline New York promoting their Big Shot Mascara. Rock had partnered up with Eyerís Beauty and came out with false eyelashes.

The basics of gurus is to review and make tutorials of makeup, but Starrr has uploaded videos of himself doing makeup for celebrities, some of which includes Jessie J, Kim Kardashian West, and Katy Perry. Starrr presents himself in his YouTube videos wearing feminine clothing.

Rock started to present his feistiness and boldness in the media when he was at the young age of 16. He started to show makeup tutorials and rank videos on Instagram.

“Bretman Rock shows me that I can be myself and not let anyone drag me down,” sophomore Hanson Pham said.

As more and more males present their beauty and makeup to the world, more diversity within the media represents themselves in the beauty and makeup industry.
