Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5), was released on Sept. 17, 2013 and is still going strong with its online feature of the game. Grand Theft Auto is more than just a “you just steal cars” game. GTA 5 is a classic open world action-adventure game released by the game developing company, Rockstar North Games, that is also known for its other titles such as Red Dead Redemption and the Max Payne franchise.

The game is set in the fictional city of Los Santos and a countryside called Blaine County in the state of San Andreas. Los Santos is based off of Los Angeles and Blaine County is based off of a small section of the desert in Nevada.

The story follows three protagonists, Michael De Santa (formerly Michael Townley), Franklin Clinton, and Trevor Philips. De Santa and Philips are experienced bank robbers from North Yankton, who encountered a mishap with the police after robbing a bank. Almost caught, Michael tells a security guard, “You forget a thousand things everyday, make sure this is one of them.” The police later caught up to them but Philips managed to escape, leaving De Santa, who thinks he is now dead. We later find out that De Santa is introduced into the witness protection program and settles with a new name and life in Los Santos with his wife and his two troubled kids. Later, De Santa meets Clinton, young and fresh from the hood, after a car repossession conflict with De Santa’s son Jimmy.

De Santa and Clinton eventually team up to perform a jewelry heist; the heist catches news coverage of De Santa quoting his infamous line to the security guard on TV. Philips, who is now living in Blaine County, recognizes De Santa’s words and immediately becomes fueled with anger and makes sure his associates track him down right away. The game starts to unravel as the FBI, private armies, and mobs get involved in the trio’s lives.

The game’s graphics are stunning and very realistic. As the player’s camera angle moves around, you can see the details, such as shadows cast from the sun and highlights and shadows of the the characters’ faces. Rockstar also implemented fun little Easter eggs throughout the game.

GTA 5 generated more than $800 million in worldwide revenue within 24 hours of its initial release. This game was in production from 2008 to its release date in 2013. It is one of the  most expensive video games ever produced coming in at $265 million. It is clear that the game came out to be a huge success and continues to fire that spark of interest in players with their online section of the game.
