With summer break on the horizon, some students may find themselves with copious amounts of freetime on their hands. Although many are swarmed with various responsibilities, summertime blues, college stress or the desire to thoroughly enjoy their summer break, a handful of students have the opportunity to use this time to earn money.

Taking a part-time job during the summer is a common occurrence for students who are able to work. Not only can a student earn some extra money, they could gain valuable experience and develop new skills. Students could familiarize themselves with a working lifestyle, something present throughout adulthood. Students offered positions as apprentices are able to hone their skills in a respective field at the expense of receiving low pay. For students seeking some extra cash, taking a part-time job is optimal at times.

For creative students, they could use their artistic skills to earn money by opening commissions for their work. Digital artists often promote their art through commissions, and many students could do so as well. Although it is unlikely for a student to receive abundant requests at first, they could slowly gain recognition and earn a steady income through art or writing commissions. Students could also hone their artistic skills and gain work experience.

Similar to the previous suggestion, students can offer other services like nail jobs and handmade accessories to their local communities. Students can use their expertise in a niche hobby to earn money, producing quality gifts or offering convenient services to their peers. Along with earning money, students can potentially further their interest in a certain career. For example, a student interested in pursuing a career in computer science could practice through setting up programs or apps for peers at a cost. Not only could they earn money, they also gain experience while honing their skills.

Summer break offers a financial opportunity to many students. Whether it is through niche hobbies, potential career interests, or simply taking a part-time job, students can find a suitable way to make money over the summer.
