After dropping several hints throughout the night, Taylor Swift turned the Sofi Stadium blue on Aug. 9 as she announced the official release date of 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Ever since the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in July, fans have been anticipating the re-recording of Swift’s most popular album. 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will be released on October 27, 2023, exactly 9 years after the original album dropped.

As one of the most popular albums, Swift shares that this album has been one of her favorites to re-record. In her announcement post, she writes, “To be perfectly honest, this is my most favorite re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”

For those who are not familiar with Taylor Swift, she included From the Vault tracks in each re-recording, which are songs she wrote but never released in the original albums. Originally released in October 2014, 1989 held some of Swift’s most popular songs, such as Shake it Off and Bad Blood. The release of the original album had also shown Swift’s resilience against her record label, which only wanted her to pursue country music. The shift from the country to pop genre with 1989 marked the beginning of Swift’s desire to pursue complete ownership of her music.

The artist continues to make it clear that her music is hers. 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will become Swift’s fourth re-recorded album out of six, in which the originals had been recorded under her previous record label, Big Machine. Even though the lyrics and music were hers, Swift was unable to reclaim the master recording of her first six albums when she parted with Big Machine. Therefore, Swift re-recorded her albums so she would have complete control and earn more profits on the music that belonged to her.

Now that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) has been announced, many fans are waiting for the final two re-recorded albums. Reputation and Swift’s debut album, entitled after the artist herself, have been noted as the albums with the most personal meaning. Snippets of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) have been circulating on the internet and many fans believe this will be the next re-recording to be released.
