Toward the end of the previous school year, junior Natalia Gonzalez eagerly waited for the results of the B.R.A.V.O. (Be Respectful, Safe, Actively Engaged, and Responsible) Way club’s cabinet results for the 2022-23 term. She was filled with joy upon hearing that she would be the Co-President of the club.

The B.R.A.V.O. Way club was formed during May 2022. Its purpose is to promote a sense of school spirit by bringing students and staff together.

“I really wanted to be a part of the B.R.A.V.O. Way club, so I was excited to await the position results,” Gonzalez said. “I kind of saw it coming, so I already knew the results before it was officially announced, and I’m just excited to be a part of the club.”

Gonzalez’s participation in the drama club last year encouraged her to become more involved in the school community. So far, she has helped set up El Mercado, which is where students can redeem their B.R.A.V.O. bucks for various items. El Mercado is located near the B-building, on the side of the Career Center. Being actively engaged in the school community has been beneficial for Gonzalez because it is also an opportunity for her to refine her interpersonal and leadership skills.

“I only know about 50% of the people in the B.R.A.V.O. Way club; I don’t know all of the adults in the club either. I am able to branch out and talk to people. As Co-President, it’s important to get to know them.” Gonzalez said.

Now that Gonzalez has achieved her goal of becoming Co-President of the B.R.A.V.O. Way club, her next objective is to improve upon it since the club is relatively new.

“I want to help make the club more organized … there’s just a lot going on right now because it’s also the beginning of the school year,” Gonzalez said. “I want the club to make people more aware of El Mercado, and I want the club to be something that all students can participate in.”
