Portable sinks engender safety

Portable sinks have been placed around school prior to spring break. This has allowed for students to maintain sanitation in a time-efficient manner.

As students are moving toward the end of the school year, it is important to remain sanitary and comply with COVID guidelines. With portable sinks, less students are going to be in congested restrooms during passing periods if they only need to wash their hands. Portable sinks are not as time -consuming as restrooms are because there is not as much wait. It will mitigate the transmission of COVID cases at school, as students will have less contact with each other.

Students can be at more ease during passing periods with portable sinks. Between the eight-minute passing period, many students go to the restroom. Some are just waiting to use sinks. Therefore, with a long line, students can tend to get impatient and leave. Now, the sink users don’t have to wait as long for the bathroom sinks to get cleared. Instead they can walk to a portable sink nearby. This way, students can deplete their stress levels and not be in a rush to get to class.

Portable sinks also promote hygiene. It has always been recommended to wash one’s hand before and after eating. Students can easily go to a portable sink since it has a better effect in killing germs—if hands are washed properly—than hand sanitizers. With more students washing their hands before and after their meals, less transmission for other diseases will occur. However, the sinks encourage littering. Because there is no trash can beside it, students will be more lenient to dispose of the trash by leaving it around the vicinity of the sink. But there are multiple relatively close trash cans near the sinks. Also, there are always hand sanitizers around school in case students know they will not dispose of trash properly.

All in all, students have been provided with four portable sinks around school where they can access it instead of restrooms. In order to resolve the littering issue, the school should place an attachable trash can beside it to make sure litter does not get in the floor or in the sink.
