There are many different learning styles, and studies have shown that kinesthetic learning is the most complex technique, given the nature of how these people obtain the information. People who learn primarily through this method physically manipulate or carry out tasks as a way to learn what they need. Hands-on learning is essential to not only learners who learn best through this style, but everyone because it forces a person to essentially learn as they go, improving critical thinking and analytical skills through trial-and-error experimentation.

When people learn through kinesthetic means, they are not simply given the information that they need to absorb. Rather, they must work their way through a problem in order for them to learn what they need to learn. By learning through lessons with hands-on activities, like origami or constructing models with other materials, rather than simply listening or reading, people retain the information for a much longer period of time and significantly expand the scope of scenarios that their learned knowledge can be applied toward.

Kinesthetic learning simulates the real world in a way that other learning styles cannot. Through this style, people can encounter difficulties that would otherwise be unexpected in any other learning manner. Exemplifying the idea of people living in a constantly changing reality, kinesthetic learning enables a variety of scenarios to come into play at the same time, all of which students have to account for if they are to complete whatever task that lies before them. By encountering real world problems, students learn how to navigate their way out of them, better preparing them for when this knowledge has to be applied in conjunction with content that has yet to be taught in more complex situations.

Expanding the implementation of kinesthetic learning also faces opposition since only a small percentage of people are kinesthetic learners. Despite this, limiting the number of ways people learn content can severely hamper people’s adaptability if a certain situation requires a different learning style. Kinesthetic learning is just as crucial as any learning style, if not better, given its ability to pose real-world problems in a controlled environment.
