District must advocate social issues to support community

Social issues have become more widespread recently. Each one, such as the high surge in anti-Asian crimes is getting more recognition and importance. During such a time, the district needs to spread more awareness to assist in students’ safety and support their voices.

Informing students about recent social issues is crucial. The district has the means to do so through mass emails and social media. It is important for the district to relay information as it allows for awareness to spread in a timely manner, otherwise issues become less prominent as time progresses. In addition, many students are involved in fighting against social issues. Therefore, the district advocacy would be supported rather than criticized.

Along with spreading awareness through mass emails and announcements, initiating conversation in regards to social issues affects students in a positive manner. Students are more likely to feel safer knowing that the district is also trying to advocate along their side. Therefore, students feel more comfortable to share their perspective on such issues since the district is supportive as well. This is crucial as students improve the school environment through their various perspectives and opinions. It will help students learn more effectively, as a positive environment allows for better engagement in the classes and the community.

Some might say that being involved in social issues is not part of the district’s role as they need to focus on providing schooling rather than delving into such concerns, however, one of the district’s duties is to keep their students safe. This includes welcoming students and guaranteeing that they are not discriminated against. Yet, the district needs to advocate against social issues more effectively. They have acted passively to recent situations such as gender inequality by not reinforcing the negative effects of the social issues. If the district raises concern of social issues to a greater extent, then the benefits would increase as well. Spreading awareness about social issues falls within their duties, making it the district’s role to fight against them and helping protect students against discrimination.

The district and the community would greatly benefit from advocating against social issues. In the future, the district can side with advocates by setting up fundraisers to help support them. Spreading awareness and ensuring student safety will not be a step back, but a step forward in the right direction.
