No matter where you are in life, music will stay by you. Many students listen to music when they leave the house for school, walk from period to period, eat lunch, and do homework. However, there are some positives and negatives from listening to music while working.

Senior Fabiola Vega listens to music during her free time, but she does not like to listen to music while doing homework. If she has not listened to music in a while, she opens up one of her mixed playlists on Spotify which makes her feel relaxed and pumped.

“I get distracted and start singing along and dancing to the music,” Vega said. “I [listen] for a bit then put it aside and start getting back to work.”

Listening to music 24/7 relaxes junior Jason Hong. Putting on earbuds on a daily basis brings his concentration to another level. Music is a way for Hong to stay focused while doing homework.

“[Listening to music] makes me feel like I’m in a music video,” Hong said. “I like [how music] has affected my work in a good way because I can put more effort towards my work.”

Concentration may be affected by the type of music one listens to while working. Sophomore Leyna Tran likes to listen to R&B, rap, and, hip hop, bringing her less stress and essentially making her happier.

“I enjoy listening to music during my dedicated homework time [and] car rides,” Tran said. “Listening to music while doing homework is a favorite activity of mine!”

As students get more homework over the years in high school, their need for music in their daily lives increases. Although some students do not like the idea of working with music due to distraction, others find it helping them concentrate. There is just no way of escaping the world of music, no matter what one may be doing.
