Tangerines are not only great for eating, but they also come with many benefits for your health, hair, skin, and much more. They have under 40 calories, 1.5 grams of fiber, abundant powerful flavonoids, and about the same about of vitamin C as a little orange. They provide approximately three times as much vitamin A than oranges and make absorbing iron much more efficient for your body. The next time you think of snacking on a bag of potato chips, peel a tangerine instead.

1) Tangerines are good for your skin.

Tangerines, thanks to their antioxidants that fight skin-ruining free radicals, possess a third of your daily dose of vitamin C. While you can reap the benefits from the inside out, you can also brighten your skin with a homemade mask that removes oil and bacteria. Simply mix one tablespoon of plain yogurt, a teaspoon of honey, and the juice of three or four tangerine slices. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, rinse off, pat dry, and follow up with your usual moisturizer.

2) Tangerines can prevent gingivitis.
Researchers from the State University of New York at Buffalo proved that people who do not get their daily dose of vitamin C are 25 percent more likely to get gingivitis. In other words, the condition is puffy, red gums that bleed when you brush it. Eating a tangerine is an easy option to keep your mouth in good shape, but don’t go crazy; the high acid content can break down the
enamel on your teeth.

3) Tangerines can help with your vision.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and cataracts are the main causes of vision loss for elders who are 60 and older. Thanks to the vitamin C and A in tangerines, you can delay or even prevent losing your vision.

4) Tangerines help to keep your bones strong.
A Tufts University study found that a group of men who consumed more vitamin C and potassium, both in tangerines, had increased bone density and fewer fractures.

5) Tangerines slow your aging process.
It’s all about the antioxidants. Along with giving your skin a youthful glow, tangerines’ powerful properties, and antioxidants slow the aging process by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Wrinkles are a result of your skin losing its elasticity, thinning out, and becoming dry; but the age-you-fast free radicals can be fended off by tangerines’ antioxidants.
