With three seconds left in the fourth quarter and a touchdown from the juniors, the game was tied 21-21. From the first quarter to the fourth, the junior and senior girls participated in a seven-player flag football game.

The first PowderPuff Football game in three years was held on May 5, where the class of 2017 girls went up against the class of 2016 girls.
The girls on the junior side were Kiana Saucedo-Moreno, Sheccid Duarte, Skye Lynn Bojorquez, Hazel Larios, Mina Lam, Alexis Chapa, Jennifer Yan, Kitty Lu, Lila Macias, Gabriela Flores, and Analiz Marmolejo. The senior side consisted of Sabrina Gonzalez, Jazmine Cabrera, Lindsey Huynh, Leslie De La Cruz, Hazel Tun, Cassey Servera, Cassandra Rodriguez, Ashley Espinosa-Alvarez, Esmeralda Martinez, Breana Ascencio, and Emily Perez.

All players warmed up for the big game while the crowd roared and cheered as the first PowderPuff football game commenced.

Seniors started with a 22-yard throw. Both teams had multiple incomplete passes, falls, and interceptions all in the first quarter. The audience expressed a wide range of emotions, from laughs to cheers to boos, especially when the juniors had a near touchdown.

Out of nowhere, the seniors attacked with all their might, scoring the first touchdown thanks to senior Carolina Loaisiga with two minutes and 33 seconds left in the first half. However, the juniors were right behind them by just 10 seconds, making a touchdown and tying the game with a score of 7-7.

Back at it again, the seniors scored a touchdown in the third quarter with less than two minutes left in the game, altering the score to 14-7.

With various time-outs and penalties given to both teams, the second half began with an equal opportunity for either team to score. Within the first three minutes of the game, the juniors had once again tied the game to 14-14, making a touchdown and bringing the screaming crowd up on their feet.

Soon after, senior Jazmine Cabrera scored a touchdown at three minutes and 15 seconds, bringing the score to 21-14.

With the last minute in the game, the juniors attempted to tie the score up once again but failed. Then, just 12 seconds later, with three seconds left in the game, a phoenix rose from the ashes. Well, in this case, junior Kitty Lu brought the score to a tie with the last touchdown.

Senior captain Jazmine Cabrera recalls the game as a good experience.

“It was very cool to see people you would never think would have been athletic or somewhat ‘tough’,” Cabrera said. “It’s a memory you will definitely remember.”

The junior and senior girls tied with the score 21-21. Afterwards, the game was put into overtime for three minutes; however, the scores remained the same at 21-21.
