Cat lovers who are not able to own cats for whatever reason now have a cure to their lonely hearts. The mobile game Neko Atsume is a neat alternative for anyone who is lacking cats in his or her life.

Neko Atsume was originally released on Oct. 20, 2014 in the Japanese iTunes store. A year later, on Oct. 30, 2015, an English version of the game called Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector was released. Due to the release of the English version, Neko Atsume quickly gained popularity in America and has become a hot topic.

One may expect it to be an extremely exciting game due to the hype. However, it is not an intense shooter or an addictive rhythm game, but a simple interactive game that does not require much attention.

Neko Atsume has attracted many players who need cute cats in their life. In addition, the cats only come every so often, so there is no need for one’s eyes to constantly be glued to the screen. Just lay food out, close the app, and wait–soon the yard will be filled with cats. It is an undemanding game that even allows people with little to no time to enjoy.

The player lays out food, toys, and furniture in their yard, and after a period of time, cats will come and interact with the items. After they have had their fill of food, fun, or rest, they leave a number of fish or gold fish so the player can either buy more food and toys for the cats or expand or remodel their room.

There are a total of 49 cats in the game, including 17 rare cats. All of them have predesignated names, but the player can choose to rename them. Certain toys and foods attract rarer cats, most of which come with special features such as clothing  or special poses and movements.

The variety of cats and different actions that come with each item keep players constantly checking their phone to see whether their favorite cat has arrived or if the rare cat they have been pursuing is in their yard. It is an addictive game in its own way. With cute cats stopping by every day to eat some food, play some toys, how can anyone resist? The player-friendly, adorable game will keep players enticed.
