Movie enthusiasts have a love-hate relationship with cliffhangers. While cliffhangers produce a great deal of excitement and suspense, viewers must wait years until the sequel comes out in order to find out what happens. The popular animated series Kung Fu Panda serves as an excellent example. After over five years of waiting, Kung Fu Panda fans can finally watch how Po reunites with his father, an event foreshadowed by the cliffhanger ending in Kung Fu Panda 2. In addition, with the series’ general plot in which Po hones his kung fu skills, defeats a villain, and saves China, Po’s character will develop further and details about his background (like how he ended up calling a goose “Dad”) will be revealed. Although the series is most popular for its dramatic fighting scenes and humorous characters, Po must deal with internal conflicts as he faces his latest enemy, Kai, as well.

Kung Fu Panda 3 also plans to expand its audience beyond the United States by collaborating with a Chinese film company to release the movie in China. This company, known as Oriental Dreamworks, will produce one-third of the movie and ensure the film’s release in Mandarin. This partnership makes sense, as the series connects strongly with Chinese culture. It also marks the first time a major American animation film was co-produced with a Chinese corporation.

Kung Fu Panda 3 will be released on Jan. 29 and shown in local cinemas such as AMC Theatre.
